The Samuel Morris Foundation is supporting our partner Royal Life Saving Society of Australia for the launch of this summers Keep Watch campaign.
The Foundation is participating in a number of media events around the country as part of this launch including interview for various media outlets in NSW, ACT, VIC and QLD.
Sadly the the overall drowning rate in Australia has increased in both of the last two years and has also increased in the 0-5 year age group.
Last year 33 Australian children aged 0-4 lost their lives to drowning and in the last five years 150 children in this age group died… and we also need to remember that for every one of these deaths there are at least another four children admitted to hospital following near drownings and almost one quarter of them will suffer a brain injury that results in some form of disability for life.
We are again encouraging everyone to make this weekend your home pool safety weekend, please visit www.homepoolsafety.com.au to download the home pool safety check sheet and other resources to help ensure your pool is as safe as possible this summer… remember to ALWAYS KEEP WATCH when children are in, around or near water.
