The NSW Government has commenced the public consultation period on the review of the Swimming Pools Act 1992. The review papers are available at the NSW Department of Local Government site.
The Samuel Morris Foundation encourages all people with an interest in the safety of children to make a submission to the NSW Government by downloading the response form and forwarding it to the Department of Local Government prior to the closing date for submission on Friday 12 June 2009.
This is the first chance in a very long time to directly influence the decision making around home pool safety. Once this review is finalised it is unlikely that the Government will be persuaded to take any action on amending the legislation in the short to medium term, so it is important that we all have our say on making the home swimming pool environment as safe as possible for all of our children.
