Funding for vital equipment for people with a disability has always been a battle in NSW. A petition is now circulating which urges the NSW State Government to reconsider the funding arrangements for the Program of Appliances for Disabled People (PADP).
Under Article 20 of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, NSW people with a disability have a right to appropriate equipment, aids and appliances and other relevant assistive technologies, as well as personal care assistance, to provide the greatest possible level of independence and autonomy.
The petition asks that the parliament works to ‘ensure that current and future budgets for the PADP will be based upon the fundamental need for the timely provision of equipment, aids and appliances that are essential to improve the health, wellbeing and quality of life of people with a disability’.
The petition is being circulated by Greens MLC, Ian Cohen. Please download thepetition below, add your details and then get your friends and colleagues to sign this petition to show their support for protecting the rights and quality of life for disabled people.
