Protect Your Pool – Protect Your Kids

November 24, 2010 by Michael Leave a Comment

Protect Your Pool – Protect Your Kids

The Protect Your Pool – Protect Your Kids project is a partnership between the Samuel Morris Foundation, Kidshealth at the Childrens Hospital at Westmead and the Swimming Pool and Spa Association with funding from Shell’s Clyde Refinery, this project continues the Samuel Morris Foundations commitment to drowning prevention and awareness.

At  Protect Your Pool, Protect Your Kids you will find vital information on pool fencing including a video that clearly explains what the requirements for pool fencing are in NSW, as well as other drowning prevention and awareness tips.

The video refers specifically to the legislation in NSW, but it should be noted that the requirements for pool fencing are as specified in the Australian standards and are a good guide for everyone, however we recommend you review your states legislation (links to the legislation can be found in our links section), as there are variations in each state.

The video also contains vital tips on keeping your children as safe as possible in and around water, and there is a check sheet for you to download to assist you in inspecting your own pool.

This project is vital as we head into the summer months, as this is the period during which over half of all toddler drowning deaths occur.

We encourage EVERYONE who has a swimming pool or young children to visit the Protect Your Pool, Protect Your Kids page, watch the video and then share the link with EVERYONE else you know who has a pool or young children. Drowning prevention for toddlers is everyone’s responsibility……..
